NBA league indefinitely suspends Toronto player Jontay Porter

(Patria) - The NBA league has indefinitely suspended Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter (24) for disclosing confidential information to sports betting companies and betting on games.

An investigation conducted by the NBA league found that "Porter disclosed confidential information to sports bettors, and limited his playing time to influence the outcome of one or more bets on his performance in at least one Raptors game".

The league determined that on March 20, Porter disclosed information about his health condition to a bettor, after which $80,000 was wagered that Porter would not record the offered number of points in that game.

After only a few minutes on the court, Porter complained of an injury and did not return to the game.

The bet, which was supposed to bring the bettor a profit of $1.1 million, was frozen, and the NBA launched an investigation.

The investigation also found that Porter placed at least 13 bets on NBA games, with wagers ranging from $15 to $22,000. These bets brought him a profit of $76,059. He did not bet on his own performance, but he did bet on the Raptors losing.
