Manchester United fans want a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000 seats

(Patria) - Most fans of the English football giant Manchester United are in favour of building a new stadium, but not modernizing the current Old Trafford, according to AFP.

Of the 50,000 fans with season tickets and club members who were asked for their opinion, 52 percent supported the idea of building a new facility.

On the other hand, 31 percent supported the renovation or expansion of one of the most recognizable stadiums in world football - Old Trafford.

United's city rival Manchester City left their old stadium Maine Road in 2003 to move to the newly built City of Manchester Stadium, while their rival Liverpool renovated their Anfield.

In September, United released images of a potential redevelopment of Old Trafford, suggesting that a new stadium would be part of a multi-billion pound development project.

The club's owners are considering options with a special working group that includes former United player Gary Neville and World Athletics president Sebastian Coe.

The Daily Telegraph reported that the final decision on renovation or new construction will likely be made in the first half of next year.

Fans believe that the working group should focus its discussions on building a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000 people, rather than on renovation.
