(Patria) - The World Football Championship has claimed its first coaching victim after just one round of matches.
The Tunisian Football Federation made a radical decision and dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi, dissatisfied with the catastrophic start to the global tournament.
The future of the 54-year-old French expert on the bench of the African selection came into question immediately after the heavy and humiliating defeat in Monterrey, where Tunisia was completely dismantled by Sweden in the opening group match with a score of 5:1.
The Scandinavian selection dictated the pace from the very start and, without major problems, secured a convincing triumph, while Lamouchi helplessly watched the rout of his chosen players.
Foreign media report that the leaders of the Tunisian federation did not want to waste time and reacted immediately, ending cooperation with the former Inter midfielder.
This outcome comes as a logical consequence of the strong reaction from the Tunisian public and fans, who remained outraged and furious over the shameful performance of the national team on the biggest stage.
"This is the worst possible start to the championship, a disgrace and a shame," is just one of thousands of comments from disappointed fans on social media demanding urgent changes.
Tunisia now finds itself in an unenviable situation, as it will have to continue the fight for the knockout phase with a temporary solution on the bench, while Lamouchi has entered World Cup history as one of the coaches who received the quickest dismissal after the tournament's opening.
