(Patria) - With the race in Val di Fassi, the best Bosnian-Herzegovinian alpine skier Elvedina Muzaferija, a member of the ski club "ZE-2010", finished this season's competition in the Audi FIS World Cup.
Despite her willpower, the result in today's race was affected by the consequences of a serious fall that Muzaferija experienced last week in Andorra during an official downhill training session, due to which she missed four races, two each in the downhill and Super-G disciplines.
The unfortunate situation interrupted a series of good results, including 22nd place in the FIS World Cup at the end of January, then 15th place in the FIS Europa Cup, and 16th place in the same discipline at the Winter Olympic Games in Cortina. Missing key races also reduced her chances of qualifying for the World Cup finals.
"With today's race in Val di Fassi, the Audi FIS World Cup season has ended for me. The result is not what I expected, but after the ankle injury, I am glad to be here. Unfortunately, at this moment, due to the injury, I was not physically able to ski as I wanted to attack and fight for the finals, but considering that this was an Olympic season and that was the main goal, and that I achieved a historic result for Bosnia and Herzegovina, 16th place in the Super-G discipline, that is a very good result and I am proud of it," Muzaferija summarized her results after today's race in Italy.
The twenty-six-year-old from Visoko finished the FIS World Cup season with six appearances in downhill, in which she did not manage to score points, and five Super-G races with 16 points, currently ranking 37th in the discipline.
"After a short break, I will compete in the FIS Europa Cup finals in Saalbach. When I look back at the entire season, it is not what I imagined, but that's sport. One season is better, one is worse, I don't give up and we move on," Muzaferija says.
The last, pre-final weekend in Val di Fassi brought a lot of excitement, and Laura Pirovano won both downhill races, while two other Italians, Elena Curtoni as the winner and Asja Zenere as the third-placed, finished on the Super-G podium today. Second place went to Kajsa Viskhoff Lie. The only representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the highest tier of world skiing had bib number 22 and, with a deficit of three seconds and 35 hundredths, finished in 42nd place out of 57 competitors.
The Audi FIS World Cup finals, which include the top 25 in the discipline, will be held from March 19th to 25th in Norway, and the FIS Europa Cup finals, in which Elvedina Muzaferija will compete in the speed disciplines, are scheduled from March 20th to 22nd in Saalbach (Austria).
