Mirko Vučinić new head coach of Montenegro

(Patria) - The Montenegrin Football Association yesterday relieved Robert Prosinečki of his position as head coach of the senior national team due to poor results in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The Executive Board of the Football Association of Montenegro thanked Prosinečki for his dedicated work with the national team over the past two years and wished him success in his next coaching engagement.

Prosinečki leaves as one of the least successful Montenegrin head coaches, given that from March 2024 - when he debuted on the Montenegro bench with two wins in friendly matches, until September 9 - when he was convincingly defeated in his Zagreb, he achieved five wins, one draw and ten losses.

The Croatian expert will be replaced on the Montenegro bench by Mirko Vučinić, who has been an assistant in the national team coaching staff since January 2022, led by Miodrag Radulović and Prosinečki.

Vučinić has been part of the Montenegro national team since its first appearance after the restoration of Montenegrin independence in 2006.

He will serve as head coach until the end of the current year and will lead the Montenegrin national team in qualifying matches against the Faroe Islands, Gibraltar and Croatia, as well as in a friendly match against Liechtenstein.
