Liverpool and Manchester United draw in a thrilling derby at Anfield Road

(Patria) - The derby match of the 20th round of the English Premier League at Anfield Road between Liverpool and Manchester United has concluded.

After 90 exciting minutes, there was no winner as the match ended in a 2:2 draw.

In one of the biggest derbies in world football, the two English giants entered the match in completely different moods: Liverpool as the league leaders with a string of very good results and the main favourite for the title, and Manchester United, who are sinking deeper and deeper and find themselves in the lower part of the table.

The first half offered no goals, but it did offer a very balanced game, which was particularly impressive from the visitors given their performances in the last few matches.

The second half started excellently for tonight's brave Manchester United. In the 52nd minute, after a great move and an equally catastrophic reaction from Liverpool's defence, Lisandro Martinez scored to make it 0:1.

However, the home players quickly showed why they are at the top of the English Premiership this season and quickly turned the game around. First, Cody Gakpo caused chaos in the visitors' penalty area and scored in the 59th minute to make it 1:1. Ten minutes later, the visitors' centre-back Matthijs de Ligt reacted catastrophically to a cross from the home side, stopping the ball with his hand, and Michael Oliver awarded a penalty. The fantastic Mohamed Salah was reliable from the spot this season.

However, the visitors from Manchester did not give up; they continued to threaten the home goal and it paid off in the 80th minute when Amad Diallo scored to make it 2:2, confirming his own good form but also the determination of the "Red Devils" to get a positive result tonight.

Until the end of the match, we saw plenty of chances on both sides, with the best one falling to Harry Maguire, who in the final seconds missed an essentially empty Liverpool goal from ten metres, thus denying Manchester United the full spoils.

In the Premiership, there is now a two-week break, during which FA Cup matches will be played. Liverpool remain in first place with a six-point lead over Arsenal, but with a game in hand, and in the next round they will visit third-placed Nottingham Forest. Manchester United, with this point, took 13th place with 23 points in total, and in the next round they will host Southampton.
