(Patria) - Bosnia's top cyclist Lejla Njemčević will compete on Saturday in the World Cup race in Selva Val Gardena, Italy, as part of one of the world's most famous races, the Hero Südtirol Dolomites. The Hero World Cup in mountain biking is known for its extremely demanding and long climbs, reaching altitudes of up to 2,300 meters.
For this very reason, Lejla is currently undergoing intensive altitude training in Livigno, Italy, to adequately adapt to the efforts awaiting her in the 60-kilometer race with 3,200 meters of elevation gain.
"I am entering the upcoming World Cup with a certain amount of accumulated fatigue from a strong training process, given that our training during this period is primarily focused on preparing form for the European Championship. I know the course of the Hero Südtirol Dolomites race very well. Although its profile does not entirely suit me because it is not too technically demanding, I still feel very motivated and physically ready for the challenges awaiting me this weekend," said Lejla Njemčević.
At the last World Cup race held on the island of Elba, also in Italy, Lejla won her historic 15th medal in World Cup competitions. Immediately after the race in Selva Val Gardena, Lejla returns to Livigno and continues with altitude training. The entire current block of training in Livigno represents the foundation for one of her first major goals of this season, the European Championship in Bilbao, Spain, scheduled for mid-July.
