Lejla Njemčević wins 6th place at the first World Cup in Spain

(Patria) - The best BiH cyclist Lejla Njemčević won 6th place at the opening of the World Cup season in Spain. The track was extremely technically demanding, while the weather conditions, along with high temperatures, further complicated the race. By winning 6th place, Njemčević earned another 130 UCI points and announced a strong start to the new season.

"I am very satisfied with 6th place at the World Cup in Spain. This was my first race of the season, and the first race is always the hardest, especially due to the high intensity. I didn't race preparatory races, and the conditions were completely different compared to the preparations I had in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Nevertheless, this race was an excellent test of form and quality preparation for the next competition that awaits me, namely the toughest stage race in the world, the eight-day Cape Epic in South Africa," said Lejla Njemčević.

The next World Cup race is planned for May, and it will be held on the Elbe in Italy. Lejla took second place on the same track last season, which further raises expectations for the continuation of the competitive year. The calendar of the World Cycling Federation for this season includes a total of six World Cup races, and along with the European and World Championships, it is a very demanding schedule for all competitors.

Njemčević's next race is the Absa Cape Epic, an eight-day team stage race held from March 15 to 22 in South Africa. The Cape Epic is considered one of the toughest and most prestigious races in the world, where athletes cover extreme distances and thousands of meters of elevation gain over eight days. Lejla Njemčević's participation in the UCI Cape Epic, where she is qualified in the SHC category, will be the first ever participation of a BiH competitor in this prestigious race.
