Basketball Lilies End EuroBasket Campaign

(Patria) - The Bosnia and Herzegovina national basketball team has ended its EuroBasket campaign.

Coach Adis Bećiragić's squad was defeated in the round of 16 by Poland today in Riga with a score of 72:80 (23:14, 21:26, 17:22, 11:18).

The reasons for the defeat should primarily be sought in a drastic drop in performance in the second half. For comparison, we scored 44 points in the first half and a meager 28 in the second.

Our basketball players started the match brilliantly. Nurkić scored the first seven points. We took a 15:4 lead and won the first quarter 23:14.

In the second quarter, there was a slight drop in play. Poland woke up, came back into the game with three-pointers, but did not manage to take the lead. At halftime, we maintained a +4 lead (44:40).

In the second half, the Poles played significantly better, gradually eroding our lead. With less than two minutes left in the third quarter, the scoreboard read 56:56.

The Poles then took their first lead of the game (57:56). Lazić responded with a three-pointer, but Poland entered the final quarter with a 62:61 lead.

The start of the final quarter was also uncertain, and then the Poles pulled away to a +4 lead (70:66).

Then, John Roberson got injured for our national team, and Amar Gegić missed two free throws.

With four minutes left in the game, our opponents reached their largest lead of +8 (76:68). Unfortunately, we could not recover, and in the end, Poland won 80:72.

The most effective player for our team was Jusuf Nurkić with 20 points, while John Roberson scored one less. For Poland, Jordan Loyd stood out with 28 points.

Poland will play against Turkey in the quarterfinals.
