(Patria) - Sarajevo clubs - KK Bosna, FK Sarajevo and FK Željezničar - have sent a joint request to the Government and Assembly of Sarajevo Canton for financial support in the upcoming competitive season.
"Based on the fact that KK Bosna, FK Sarajevo and FK Željezničar have won titles and achieved significant sporting results, including qualifying for international competitions in the 2025/2026 season, and that they will represent the city of Sarajevo and Sarajevo Canton on the regional and European sports scene, and considering the proclaimed policy of KS to reward sports collectives that achieve top sporting results, we submit the following requests:
• That the Government and Assembly of Sarajevo Canton urgently initiate the process of rebalancing the adopted budget for 2025, with the aim of increasing allocations for elite sports;
• That at least 0.5% of the total adopted budget for 2025 be allocated from the budget of Sarajevo Canton with the clear purpose of direct and systemic financial support for KK Bosna, FK Sarajevo and FK Željezničar, in order to be competitive in upcoming international and domestic competitions;
• That the funds be distributed transparently and proportionally; and
• That this request be considered under urgent procedure, within 15 days at the latest, so that the clubs have the necessary time for planning, preparation and ensuring basic conditions for competitive and dignified participation in international competitions.
Sarajevo must stand behind its sports ambassadors. The international appearances of clubs from Sarajevo are not an individual initiative - they are the result of years of work, sporting success and dedication to the community.
Such results require strategic institutional support, responsible management of public funds, and clear recognition of the importance of the capital city's sports representation.
Other cities in the region invest significantly more funds in their elite sports collectives, aware that sport brings not only promotion but also economic, social, and identity significance for the entire community.
It is time for Sarajevo to do the same. It is not a privilege - it is a responsibility - it is our honor and pride", stated the joint statement of KK Bosna, FK Sarajevo and FK Željezničar.
