Rain and snow cause problems for skiers on 'Kandahar': Muzaferija expected to compete in downhill and Super-G this weekend

(Patria) - Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the popular German ski centre, is hosting women's alpine skiing races this weekend.

The fourth downhill race of the current Audi FIS World Cup season is scheduled for Saturday, January 25, starting at 10:15 AM on the “Kandahar” slope.

A day later, on January 26, starting at 11:00 AM, the FIS alpine skiing calendar features the fifth Super-G race, where we will watch the world's fastest female skiers, including Bosnia and Herzegovina's best alpine skier, Elvedina Muzaferija.

Today, like the other 54 competitors, she took part in the official downhill training, which was, however, made difficult by snow on the upper part of the slope and rain on the lower sections.

Organisers therefore shortened today's training by the last sector, so the skiers did not have the opportunity to enter the competition's designated finish area.

Nevertheless, on the FIS website, today's training results are recorded as official, and the extent to which above-zero temperatures, rain and snow complicated the training is evident from the fact that Nadine Fest, who started 38th, finished the training in first place, while Elena Curtoni started first and ended up 51st on the final training list.

Elvedina Muzaferija, starting with bib number 29, finished the training in 42nd place, two hundredths of a second behind Lindsey Vonn and one hundredth of a second ahead of Ilka Štuhec and Marta Bassino, who had identical times today.

A second official downhill training is scheduled for tomorrow, and organisers are making every effort to meet the conditions for this weekend's races and preserve the “Kandahar” slope.
