Kinđe Most Popular in Yugoslavia

(Patria) - The portal and Facebook page Košarka ex Yugoslavia has chosen Mirza Delibašić, otherwise the best Bosnian athlete of all time, as the most popular basketball player of the Yugoslav school of basketball.

"Number 1 spot in the selection. The most popular basketball player of the YU school of basketball, Mirza Delibašić Kinđe. Mirza Delibašić was chosen by the basketball family with the most votes for 'the most popular basketball player of the YU school of basketball' in the selection by the Košarka ex Yugoslavia portal.

To the delight of those who voted for him, as well as his family and friends. Mirza, you are great! Of course, in tough and strong competition, the title is truly flattering, but deservedly went to Kinđe!

Toni and Dražen were relatively close in the number of votes, but not enough to overtake Delibašić," wrote the Košarka ex Yugoslavia Facebook page.

Mirza Delibašić was born on January 9, 1954, in Tuzla. He began his sports career in 1968, when he became the BiH junior champion in tennis.

He soon exchanged his racket for a basketball in Sloboda Tuzla, and in 1972 he moved to KK Bosna. He played almost 700 games for the Students and scored approximately 14,000 points.

He was the champion of Yugoslavia (1978 and 1980), the European club champion in 1979, and with the national team of the former country, he won all possible trophies.

He was a two-time champion of the Old Continent (1977 and 1979), world champion in 1978, and Olympic winner in 1980.

The legendary Kinđe was declared the best basketball player of SFRY in 1980.

He wore the Yugoslav jersey 176 times and scored 1,759 points. He was chosen as the best athlete of Bosnia and Herzegovina four times, and in 2000 he was declared the athlete of all time in BiH.

He was the coach of the BiH national basketball team, which won eighth place at the European Championship in 1993. This is still the best placement of the BiH national team in European competitions.

Delibašić died on December 8, 2001, in Sarajevo.
