(Patria) - LED lights are increasingly popular on new cars as they provide drivers with a more focused beam and a better view of the road.
However, for all other road users, including drivers coming from the opposite direction, they are not a good solution.
In a survey by the British Automobile Association (AA) of 2,000 drivers, three-quarters said they had been "blinded" by the LED headlights of oncoming cars.
Following the worrying results, the British government has launched an investigation, and Transport Minister Lilian Greenwood has confirmed to MPs that the government is considering "potential countermeasures" to address the problem of dazzling lights.
A final decision on measures will be made this summer.
Until "countermeasures" arrive, the British DailyRecord offers drivers advice on how to mitigate the glare from LED headlights of oncoming cars.
They shared a little-known trick to combat dazzling lights that can help with night driving.
It involves dimming the lights on your car's dashboard and multimedia screen.
This will help your eyes adjust better to the oncoming glare.
"A dashboard that is too bright will make it harder for your eyes to adjust to the dark, intensifying the glare from oncoming headlights. Therefore, if possible, reduce the brightness of all screens at night to improve contrast and help your eyes adjust more easily," they advised.
Other tips that can mitigate the encounter with dazzling lights include cleaning your car's windshield and keeping windows and mirrors clean, reports Autoklub.
