Kajan on failed session regarding 'Spengavanje' affair: Investigative bodies compromised, fight against corruption degraded

(Patria) - MP of the Democratic Front (DF) in the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sanel Kajan, commented in an interview with the News Agency Patria (NAP) on one of the two extraordinary sessions of the House of Representatives, convened at the opposition's proposal.

Neither the first session – which was supposed to discuss the "Spengavanje" affair, nor the second one on job losses in FBiH yielded their final outcome. The first was prevented by the ruling majority not adopting the agenda, and the second was adjourned due to lack of quorum.

Kajan states that yesterday, an obvious rift within the ruling coalition was evident – the discussion on the "Spengavanje" affair was rejected by the majority – the Trojka coalition plus HDZ, with the exception of the Our Party, whose MPs supported the agenda.

Our interlocutor points out that SDP, NiP, and HDZ rejected the agenda, thereby preventing further discussion – 40 MPs voted "for", after individual voting. 39 were against, while three abstained.

- However, it can be said that at least part of the discussion did take place, thanks to the opposition (DF, Party for BiH, and SDA). Nevertheless, our further work related to this topic in Parliament is blocked, because the session ended without the agenda being adopted – states Kajan.

He believes that this topic had to be discussed, especially since it is one of the topics that has preoccupied the public for over a month, thereby damaging the integrity of the government and the security sector.

- The work of investigative bodies has been compromised, and the fight against corruption has been degraded. Four individuals are banned from performing official duties. If that was not a reason for the highest legislative body in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to discuss it, I don't know what is – Kajan emphasizes.

He underscores that from the letter sent by the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to POSKOK and the judiciary to prohibit this session, it could be concluded that it was pressure and an attempt at censorship, which is absolutely unacceptable.

- In Parliament, it was heard that this was an attempt to stop the discussion of an affair that has deeply compromised the Government of FBiH, the Federal Police Administration, and other institutions and their officials who are actors in this affair and who would prefer that it remain silent.

After a long time, the Prime Minister of FBiH, Nermin Nikšić, also attended the parliamentary session. He did not address the MPs, nor did he answer their questions. Nikšić likes to say that he is in favor of everyone being held accountable for their actions and that institutions should do their job.

Yesterday was an opportunity for him to speak about it before the legislature. But he didn't! Which, again, says a lot. If Prime Minister Nikšić truly cared that everyone should be accountable for their work, yesterday was the best opportunity for that, but his MPs did not vote for it.

The Prime Minister, therefore, did not wish to face those who make laws in the Federation of BiH, but he did face journalists with a prepared media appearance in which he constantly repeats the same thing – that the opposition is spreading "terrible lies" and that "institutions should do their job" – adds Kajan.

Unfortunately, he continues in his conversation with NAP, both MPs and the public were denied an answer as to whether this Government of FBiH has the credibility to continue its work.

- What also marked yesterday's session of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was the statement by Mario Karamatić, addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of FBiH, Dragan Mioković, that "he must be fucked in this Parliament", which represents a new, scandalous, and absolutely unacceptable way of public discourse.

Such rhetoric is unworthy of any institution, let alone Parliament. It is particularly worrying that such discourse has been tolerated, normalized, and amplified by the media for years.

Giving media space to such individuals is a serious social problem. This behavior must not be acceptable, it must not be normalized, and it must not pass without clear condemnation – concludes Kajan.
