Jorge Martin soon back on track, with his contract also in focus besides the races

(Patria) - Current MotoGP champion Jorge Martin returned to the track after an 81-day break, testing a superbike motorcycle at the "Catalunya" circuit.

The Aprilia rider has competed in only one race this season – the Qatar Grand Prix – where he suffered serious injuries, including 11 broken ribs and a pneumothorax. Prior to that, he was out of competition due to fractures in both hands and one foot.

The testing session in Montmeló represents the first step towards his full return, although his injuries have not yet fully healed. The medical team has not given him the green light for the upcoming German Grand Prix, while the race in Brno remains an option for his comeback.

Aprilia plans for Martin to undergo testing on the RS-GP prototype as soon as he receives medical clearance – thanks to rule changes he himself initiated. Potential testing circuits include: "Catalunya", "Marco Simoncelli", and "Ángel Nieto" in Jerez. New medical examinations are scheduled for next week.

Jorge Martin in focus even without riding

Although currently out of competitive rhythm, Martin is in the spotlight due to his announcement that he will leave Aprilia after the season – one year before his contract expires. He made this decision because the contract includes a release clause if he is not among the championship leaders after Le Mans. So far, he has not scored any points due to missing most races.

His manager, Albert Valera, stated in Assen that Martin is free to negotiate for next season, which Aprilia quickly denied. The team emphasized that it wants to keep him but will take legal measures if necessary. On the other hand, Honda has expressed interest in signing him – but only if he is free from contractual obligations. MotoGP organizers have warned that Martin will not be able to register for a new championship if he has unresolved contractual disputes.

The next race of the MotoGP championship, the German Grand Prix, takes place from July 11 to 13 at the Sachsenring circuit.
