Direct Flights from Sarajevo to Athens, Thessaloniki, and Warsaw Soon

(Patria) - Based on the Public Call for Subsidizing Air Traffic in the Sarajevo Canton area, announced on 28.11.2023 by the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board with the aim of developing tourism, establishing new destinations, and increasing passenger numbers, as well as strengthening the tourism sector, new direct air routes to the cities of Athens and Thessaloniki will be established, along with the re-establishment of flights to Warsaw.

The expert evaluation commission, after reviewing the submitted applications, determined by minutes that five timely applications were received following the Public Call, and unanimously concluded that four companies, POLSKIE LINIE LOTNICZE “LOT” S.A., RYANAIR DAC, AEGEAN AIRLINES S.A., and TUI AIRWAYS, submitted the required documentation as per the Public Call, and contracts will be concluded with them.

The Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board, in cooperation with the Government of Sarajevo Canton, namely the Ministry of Economy of Sarajevo Canton, and Sarajevo International Airport, continues its activities to introduce new direct air routes through the subsidization of airlines, all with the aim of improving and developing the tourism sector in Sarajevo Canton.

This time, the public call enabled Aegean Airlines to confirm year-round flights from Sarajevo to Skopje. Furthermore, thanks to incentives, TUI AIRWAYS will continue to operate flights on the London – Sarajevo route, which are extremely important for the development of winter tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Lot Polish Airlines is re-establishing flights to Warsaw. Unfortunately, Norwegian Air Shuttle, which planned to establish flights to Scandinavia, did not submit all the necessary documentation required by the Public Call.

A new Public Call for Subsidizing Air Traffic in the Sarajevo Canton area will be an opportunity for all airlines that have potential and significance for the tourism market, the numerous diaspora, and citizens.
