
(Patria) - Data from the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) shows that Istanbul Airport was the busiest in Europe between 21 and 27 April.
Istanbul Airport ranked first among the busiest in Europe, with an average of 1,482 daily flights in the mentioned period.
The number of flights at Istanbul Airport increased by four percent compared to the previous year and by 24 percent compared to the same period in 2019.
Following Istanbul are Amsterdam Schiphol Airport with 1,419 daily flights, London Heathrow with 1,357, Paris Charles de Gaulle with 1,344, and Frankfurt Airport with 1,314 flights.
Istanbul Airport, which was the second busiest in Europe last year, started simultaneous operations on three runways on 17 April.
With this infrastructure, it became the first in Europe with three runways and the second in the world, after the USA.
In 2024, Istanbul Airport served around 80 million passengers, making it the largest and second busiest airport in Europe, according to data from the General Directorate of State Airports.
Last year, it also became the busiest air cargo hub in Europe, according to the 2024 annual traffic report of the Airports Council International Europe.
