Identical Results: Atletico celebrated in Barcelona, PSG defeated Liverpool at home

(Patria) - PSG footballers celebrated tonight at the Parc des Princes against Liverpool with a score of 2:0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, thus gaining a solid advantage before the second leg in England.

The home team started the match excellently and took the lead in the 11th minute. Doue advanced the ball and decided to shoot from an angle on the left side, the ball touched a visiting player, changed direction, and ended up behind the Liverpool goalkeeper.

PSG continued to press after the goal and created several more promising chances before the end of the first half, writes arenasport.

Mamardashvili reacted excellently on three occasions, stopping attempts by Kvaratskhelia, Douea, and Dembele, so the teams went into halftime with a minimal 1:0 lead.

PSG could have achieved an even more convincing victory, but a potential penalty was overturned after a VAR intervention. In the final minutes of the match, Mamardashvili distinguished himself once again, this time saving a shot from Hakimi, thus preventing a third goal for the hosts.

The match was marked by a red card for Cubarsí at the end of the first half, as well as a great performance by the visiting goalkeeper Musso, who saved his team several times.

Barcelona started the match better and had two great chances in the opening minutes through Rashford, but Musso intervened excellently on both occasions.

Atletico responded through Alvarez, but Garcia was safe. The Catalans found the net in the 17th minute, but Rashford's goal was disallowed due to an offside by Yamal at the start of the action.

The turning point occurred in the 44th minute, when Cubarsí, as the last defender, fouled Simeone. After a VAR check, referee Istvan Kovacs showed a direct red card to the young Barcelona defender.

Just a minute later, the penalty came - Alvarez executed a fantastic free-kick from about twenty meters and hit the top corner for Atletico's 1:0 lead.

Even with one player less, Barcelona continued to seek an equalizer. In the 50th minute, Rashford missed a great chance after rounding the goalkeeper, but from a difficult position, he only hit the outside of the post, while a few minutes later, Musso brilliantly saved his free-kick, with the help of the crossbar.

As the match progressed, Atletico increasingly controlled the tempo and patiently waited for counter-attacking opportunities. This approach paid off in the 71st minute when Ruggeri crossed from the left, and Sorloth reacted best in the penalty area and scored for 2:0.

Until the end of the match, Barcelona tried to reduce the deficit, and Cancelo came closest to scoring, but Musso was once again safe.

Atletico calmly saw out the match and takes a two-goal lead to Madrid for the second leg, while Barcelona faces an extremely difficult task before the return match.

The second legs will be played next Tuesday.
