Historical success for BH taekwondo: Ada Avdagić and Benjamin Husić win world bronze medals

(Patria) - Bosnia and Herzegovina taekwondo representatives Benjamin Husić and Ada Avdagić achieved a historic result for Bosnian-Herzegovinian taekwondo by winning medals at the World Under-21 Championship which began yesterday in Nairobi (Kenya).

The two young BH representatives won bronze medals, but there is certainly regret for the missed chance to compete in the final of the World Taekwondo Under-21 Championship.

Despite this, the achieved result is the best in the history of taekwondo and represents the first medals from such a world event.

Husić, in the category up to 74 kilograms, was free in the first round, and then defeated Greek representative Alexandros Barkofas 2:0 in the next round.

In the quarterfinals, he was better than Yao Ariel Ephraim Abongni with a result of 2:0, before being defeated in the match for a place in the final by Turkish representative Omer Fukran Koprea.

Avdagić, just like Husić, was free in the first round, and then in the next round she was better than Korean Siwoo Kim with 2:0 (13:1, 22:14).

With a triumph against Erika Karabeleva from Bulgaria in the quarterfinals with a result of 2:0 (18:6, 13:10), Ada secured a place among the four best competitors in the category up to 53 kilograms and another medal for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Unfortunately, with a loss in the semifinal match against Iranian Mobina Nematzadeh (2:0), the BH representative was left without the opportunity to fight for gold.

A performance at the World Under-21 Championship is also expected for the third member of our selection, Muhamed Đonka.
