Greece on the wings of the unstoppable Giannis schedules semi-final with Turkey

(Patria) - The Greek national basketball team qualified for the EuroBasket semi-finals after defeating the Lithuanian team tonight with a score of 87:76.

The Greeks deservedly celebrated and thus scheduled a semi-final clash with the Turkish national team, which earlier today defeated Poland 91:77.

Lithuania started the game excellently and led 7:0 after less than three minutes of play. Greece was finding its rhythm at that moment, but thanks to the brilliant Giannis Antetokounmpo, they managed to quickly turn things around and take a 13:12 lead.

The first quarter brought a great battle and a physically demanding game, and the Greeks took a 24:19 lead with a mini-series of 5:0.

In the second quarter, Greece further increased the intensity in defense, used every mistake by the Lithuanians, and thanks to a three-pointer by Kostas Sloukas, took a double-digit lead (35:24).

The Lithuanians then responded and reduced the deficit to 39:38, forcing Spanoulis to call a timeout. After the break, the Greeks consolidated and went into halftime with a 44:38 lead.

In the third quarter, the Greeks completely shut down Valančiūnas defensively, and the rest of the Lithuanian team could not find answers in offense.

Greece gradually built its lead, and five minutes before the end of that period, the score was 51:41. By the end of the third quarter, the lead had grown to 64:52, which was a good foundation for a calm finish.

Although Rimantas Kurtinaitis's team tried to react, Greece continued with disciplined play. Six minutes before the end of the match, the score was 73:57, and it was clear that Greece would control the game until the very end.

Lithuania did not have enough available players, while Greece routinely brought the match to an end and secured their place in the semi-finals.

The most effective player for Greece was - as expected - Giannis Antetokounmpo with 29 points. Vassilis Toliopoulos added 17, Kostas Sloukas 11, and Kostas Papanikolaou 8.

For Lithuania, Jonas Valančiūnas shone with 24 points and 15 rebounds, Arnas Velička scored 12, Gytis Radzevičius 10, and Rokas Giedraitis 7 points.

In the remaining quarter-final matches, which will be played tomorrow, Finland will play Georgia, and Germany will play Slovenia.
