Citizens of BiH keep almost 20 billion KM in banks

(Patria) - At the end of last year, total deposits of domestic sectors reached an impressive 37.32 billion KM, with more than half of the amount being savings of the population.

Of the total sum of money deposited in banks, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina own 19.74 billion KM, which is 52.9 percent of total deposits. This data indicates that the population remains the most significant source of liquidity for the domestic banking sector, writes Hayat.

The structure of the remaining deposits, according to the CBBiH data, is as follows:

- Private companies: 8.82 billion KM
- Government institutions: 4.7 billion KM
- Other domestic sectors: 2.1 billion KM
- Public companies: 1.97 billion KM

An analysis of the types of deposits shows a change in savers' habits. As much as 9.95 billion KM is held in transaction accounts, which is funds readily available to citizens at all times.

On the other hand, classic long-term savings amount to 5.41 billion KM, while demand deposits account for 3.95 billion KM. Short-term deposits have the smallest share with only 423.3 million KM. This distribution suggests that citizens prefer liquidity and quick access to money over interest income from long-term deposits.

Although the aggregate data on billions of marks are public, a more detailed picture of who owns the largest portion of that money remains unknown. In response to a query from the Capital portal about the number of individuals with accounts exceeding 100,000, 500,000, or one million KM, the Central Bank stated that they do not possess such analytical data.
Furthermore, data on the largest individual deposit by a natural person in BiH is not available, as the CBBiH does not track deposits at the individual account level, but only aggregate reports from commercial banks.
