Google's search engine faces competition after decades of dominance

(Patria) - OpenAI has introduced SearchGPT, a real-time internet search function linked to ChatGPT.

This is indeed big news considering the fact that Google has dominated the world of internet search engines for decades.

Integrating internet search into ChatGPT closes a key competitive gap with rivals like Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini, which have long offered real-time internet access in their AI conversations.

With this move, ChatGPT has the greatest chance of threatening Google's search dominance of any of Google's competitors ever.

OpenAI introduced SearchGPT just two days after Google announced that AI Overviews had expanded to more than 100 countries worldwide, and Meta is also announcing its own AI search engine.

"Search is my favorite feature we have launched in ChatGPT since the original launch. It has probably doubled my usage over the past few weeks," OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote on X.
