FK Željezničar celebrates its 104th birthday today

(Patria) - "On this day, 19 September 1921, FK Željezničar was officially registered in the then Sarajevo Football Subassociation. According to the Statute, 19 September is celebrated as the Club's Day. Željo fans, happy birthday and congratulations!" they said from Grbavica.

For the club to be officially registered, it had to play two friendly matches, so they made sure that happened.

First, on 17 September 1921, Željo was defeated by SAŠK, and a day later they were defeated by the same team, marking the beginning of the Blue story in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The lineup in the first match for Željezničar, which will forever be inscribed in the history of the team from Grbavica, consisted of: Stefan Cicvol, Milan Tomić, Vilim Novak, Rudolf Kefer, Stjepan Katalinić, Milovan Adamović, Ludvig Leple, Dragutin Siber, Dimitrije Dimitrijević, Franjo Cvelfer and Ivan Kranjc. Dunkl and Egić also played then.

The coach of the first team was Adolf Šmit, while the president was Milutin Raković.

Željezničar has 17 trophies in its showcases. Championship of the People's Republic of BiH (1): 1946, Yugoslav Championship (1): 1971/1972, BiH Championship (6): 1997/1998, 2000/2001, 2001/2002, 2009/2010, 2011/2012, 2012/2013, BiH Cup (6): 1999/2000, 2000/2001, 2002/2003, 2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2017/2018, BiH Super Cup (3): 1998, 2000 and 2001.

The Blues last lifted a trophy in the 2017/2018 season when they won the BiH Cup.

Željo has been waiting for a title since 2013, when they were last champions in the era of Amar Osim.
