FK Sarajevo celebrates 78th birthday

(Patria) - On this day, October 24, 1946, Football Club Sarajevo was founded.

It was in the hall of the Sports Home in Sarajevo. Udarnik and Sloboda merged, leading to the formation of the then-called Tropeda, which shortly after changed its name to Sarajevo.

The name "Sarajevo" was proposed by journalist and then-editor of Oslobođenje, Mirko Ostojić.

Sarajevo played its first official matches in the 1946/1947 season, and the maroon team reached third place in the Yugoslav Cup.

This was the birth of the greatest club in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Sarajevo last played in the second league in the 1957/1958 season, making it the oldest first-league team in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The period that followed brought the great Asim Ferhatović Hase to Sarajevo. Hase, over a period of 16 seasons in the maroon jersey, became the club's all-time top scorer, a title he holds to this day.

In the season when Hase's career was abruptly ended, Sarajevo gifted Bosnia and Herzegovina its first title in Yugoslavia, thus marking the greatest success of Bosnian-Herzegovinian football up to that point.

In its history, Football Club Sarajevo has won two SFRY championship titles, and five BiH Premier League titles, along with seven BiH Cups and one Supercup.

The player with the most appearances for FK Sarajevo is Ibrahim Biogradlić (379), while the player with the most goals scored is Asim Ferhatović Hase (100).
