FIFA deducts six points from Canada women's national team at Olympics for spying on New Zealand training

(Patria) - The international football organization FIFA has deducted six points from the Canadian women's national football team at the Paris Olympics and suspended three coaches for using drones to observe opponents' training sessions.

Two Canadian assistant coaches, Joseph Lombardi and Jasmine Mander, were caught on Wednesday using drones to film New Zealand's training ahead of the match between the two teams at the Olympics.

FIFA suspended Lombardi, Mander, and head coach Bev Priestman for one year, during which they will be unable to work as coaches.

Additionally, FIFA fined the Canadian Soccer Association 200,000 Swiss francs, approximately 226,000 US dollars.

The international football organization blamed Priestman and her assistants for being responsible for offensive behavior and violating the principles of fair play, and held the Canadian association accountable for failing to ensure that the coaching staff respected tournament rules.

The Canadian Soccer Association immediately suspended head coach Bev Priestman, who led the team to gold at the Tokyo Olympics three years earlier, along with her assistants, ahead of the match in which the Canadians defeated New Zealand 1-0 on Thursday.
