EPBiH plans BAM 1.73 billion in investments over the next three years

(Patria) - Positive business operations and maintaining the position of the dominant electricity supplier in BiH are the determinants of the Business Plan of JP Elektroprivreda BiH d.d. - Sarajevo for the period 2026-2028, which was adopted today by the 92nd (extraordinary) General Assembly of the Company.

The total three-year electricity production of Elektroprivreda BiH is planned at 16,175.5 GWh, for which it is significant in the current situation to adhere to the planned quantity of coal procurement and quality, as well as the availability of production capacities.

The plan envisages investments amounting to one billion and 730 million KM, mostly from loan funds, with a share of 538 million KM of own funds from planned business activities.

In accordance with the available funds of Elektroprivreda BiH and the restructuring plans of the mines, investments in coal mines within the EPBiH Concern will continue during the three-year period, in order to ensure stable and sustainable coal production in the volume required for the planned operation of thermal power plants.

The realization of new production facilities based on renewable energy sources is highlighted as a long-term strategic and priority goal, among which the planned investments in the construction of several solar power plants at already established locations are particularly significant.

The upcoming three-year period should be marked by the construction of a large number of SPPs at several promising locations on mine areas and land owned by Elektroprivreda BiH, rooftop SPPs on its own facilities, and at the customers of Elektroprivreda BiH.

Funds are also planned for the purchase of renewable energy source projects that are already in operation and projects under development, as well as the purchase or lease of land suitable for the construction of solar power plants.

In the field of production activities during the planned period, projects for the construction of flue gas desulfurization and denitrification plants at TE „Tuzla“ and TE „Kakanj“, as well as the reconstruction of Block 7 at TE „Kakanj“, the revitalization of Block 4 at TE „Tuzla“, and the rehabilitation of HE Salakovac stand out.

In the coming years, the payment of taxes or similar fees on CO2 emissions from thermal power plants in Bosnia and Herzegovina is expected. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Elektroprivreda BiH will strive to ensure that the introduction of taxes and fees is gradual and in the smallest possible amount.

At the same time, it is necessary to clearly express readiness to reduce CO2 emissions, in line with global trends, which will be concretely elaborated within the framework of the National Energy and Climate Plan of BiH (NECP BiH).

The plan envisages the establishment of a Distribution System Operator (DSO) based on the provisions of the Law on Electricity in the Federation of BiH, which entered into force in August 2023.

The law defines the obligation to separate the distribution activity and establish the DSO as a separate legal entity, i.e., a subsidiary wholly owned by Elektroprivreda BiH.

In 2026, Elektroprivreda BiH plans to produce 5,311.8 GWh of electricity and achieve a total revenue of one billion and 335.32 million KM.

For 2026, a profit before tax in the amount of 0.22 million KM is planned.
