Eco Action: Dangerous poison in a children's park in Sarajevo

(Patria) - The Eco Action Association has sharply criticized the competent institutions for their negligent handling of rodent control in Sarajevo. According to them, in a small park between Mehmeda Spahe and Dalmatinska streets, not far from the children's playground, highly toxic rodent poison was left without any warning signs.

"Why are you gambling with the lives of children and pets?" – Eco Action asks, warning of the serious consequences of such an oversight. According to them, such practice not only poses a risk to human and animal health but also seriously undermines confidence in the ability of the authorities to responsibly solve the problem of rodent infestation.

The appearance of rodents in Sarajevo has become increasingly pronounced in recent months, along with the potential threat of leptospirosis infection – a bacterial disease spread through contamination of water and food by the urine of infected rodents. The disease can cause serious health complications, and in rare cases, death.

Sarajevo authorities had previously announced increased deratization measures, but this case indicates a lack of organization and transparency in their implementation.

Citizens living near the park have expressed concern for the safety of children and pets. Veterinary stations in Sarajevo are also recording an increase in reports of pet poisonings, which further heightens tensions among citizens.
