Dževad Alihodžić acting general secretary of the Basketball Federation of BiH

(Patria) - Former national team player of our country Dževad Alihodžić has been appointed acting general secretary of the Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On this occasion, a press conference was held at the premises of the BFBiH, where members of the Management Board of the Federation Dalibor Miloš, Aid Berbić and Siniša Kovačević, as well as the new acting general secretary addressed the media representatives.

“A few days ago, at a meeting of the Management Board, we made the decision on the appointment. This is the best and most beautiful news,” stated the President of the Management Board Dalibor Miloš in his introductory address.

Dževad Alihodžić then stated:

“We have found common ground. I have decided to try to contribute, I did it as a player before, and now I will as secretary.

The goal is to try to make some progress, to create better conditions, to do our best to move basketball forward in BiH. I thank the Management Board for their trust.

Basketball in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a sport with a rich tradition, the most important thing at this moment is to bring back some positive atmosphere to the Federation. There are problems, that is for sure.

But we can solve them together, focus on work on the ground, talk, stabilize financing, and bring basketball back where it belongs. For both clubs and national teams to rise”.

Then Aid Berbić addressed the journalists, touching upon the financial situation of the BFBiH.

“I would like to thank Dževad for taking the lead of this team in the Basketball Federation. He was a great player, someone the whole country knows, and I believe he will successfully perform this role as well.

As for finances, about a month ago, the last ‘skeleton from the closet’ came out. We are currently blocked by Hotel Ilidža. We have had many consultations and conversations with government and cantonal officials, and we have received full support and promises that they will help us resolve this.

We have serviced everything else properly. I claim that these people who are currently in the Federation have not incurred even half a mark of debt, but we are catching up with some debts from previous times. We are successfully servicing them, and I believe the end of the agony and these obstacles in the Federation's work is near”.

Siniša Kovačević presented information about the preparations of the youth national teams of BiH, which are expecting to participate in European championships.

“First of all, I would like to congratulate our new general secretary and wish him luck in his future work. As for our selections, the U-16 and U-18 national teams are in preparation.

They are participating in the European B Division championships in Skopje. Dževad is already involved in the whole process, we communicate daily with the coaches, we visit them and ensure that everything is in order.”
