Džeko: We know what these matches mean, and whether they will be my last, we'll see!

(Patria) - The Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team will play Romania on November 15th in the penultimate match of the World Cup qualifiers, and a press conference was held in Sarajevo where captain Edin Džeko and coach Sergej Barbarez addressed the public.

The Dragons need a win tomorrow to secure a playoff spot, and to stay in the race for first place.

Džeko began by acknowledging that our team has experience in important matches, but not always positive.

"Regarding the experience in these matches, especially with the national team, I can say there has been too much negative, considering that in a way I see these two matches as a kind of playoff because we are in a situation where we can finish first or third," Džeko said and continued.

"The guys are aware of what this match can mean for their careers because they are younger players who are yet to build great careers, and they need to know that a World Cup is very important for a young player. After all, we all sold ourselves through the national team, no matter what anyone says, but it is the national team where 90% of players are sold, and it was like that with all of us".

"The guys are ready, we have trained well this week. Everything is in our hands, the guys are ready to take responsibility and enter the match with only one goal".

Džeko stated that the upcoming two matches are special, and although he hasn't played much at his club, he is ready because he knows what is expected in such matches and what he can contribute.

One of the questions also concerned Edin Džeko's total number of goals and whether this might be his last chance to go to the World Cup.

"You're starting to write me off before the matches. Look, every match for the national team is special to me. If it weren't, I wouldn't be here anymore. What it means now for the national team, that these two matches are much more important than some in the past, is clear to everyone, but I look at every match as if it were my last, including these two. We know what a win tomorrow brings us, what a draw, and what a loss. We are all aware of that, we are only thinking about tomorrow's match, and we'll see about later".

What do you think of the Romanian national team and who is their most dangerous player?

"They are a good and young team. A good group with them and Austria, where all three teams think they can finish first. We won the first match, although you were better, but the result is what matters in the end. I wish you to be good again tomorrow, but for BiH to win again".

Could these matches be your last for the BiH team?

"They could be. But, we'll see tomorrow how everything goes, and then we'll talk about it," Džeko said.

Who could succeed you in that goal-scoring path? On this roster, the top scorer behind you is Benjamin Tahirović with two goals.

"We were just talking about that the other day. I don't know, it should be a motivation for other players to score goals. I've crossed a lot to reach those numbers. They are quite young players, and I hope they have 15 years of career ahead of them in the national team. Demirović is the one currently closest to me in attack, and I believe he can score many goals for the national team. But, it also shows that we don't score many goals, which can be a motivation for all players to step up and decide a match sometimes".

How much do you talk with Alajbegović, who seems to be the successor to the position and status you have in the BiH national team?

"I think Kerim and Esmir are the future of this national team, and that's clear to everyone. They should be left alone, I think you journalists constantly write about why they aren't playing, you don't see everything that happens in training. Leave them alone for a bit, they have great potential to become something great for this national team, step by step".
