Džeko: I feel like I just started playing football, it's not time to retire yet

(Patria) - Edin Džeko (38) was a guest on Turkish Ekol TV where he spoke about his career in the show Sport Bülteni, reports Reprezentacija.ba.

The Fenerbahce captain announced Saturday's derby against Beşiktaş at the very beginning.

- Sometimes, if the team is going through a bad period, winning the derby can make the fans forget everything. I think Beşiktaş sees an opportunity there. They have good players. The derby won't be easy - said Džeko.

He then commented on the past season in which Galatasaray won the title.

- Last year we didn't win the title even though we got 99 points. Maybe this is the first time in history that something like this has happened to a team - Džeko pointed out.

He also commented on the question a young Galatasaray fan recently asked him - why Galatasaray, not Fenerbahce?

- People see what they want to see. We were at a charity match between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in Pendik. I signed Galatasaray fans' jerseys there too.

Sometimes you can make a mistake. I tried to joke with that boy. When you make a mistake, you have to accept it. Of course, everyone has the right to support the team they want, but my children are definitely Fenerbahce fans - said Džeko.

Although he is 38 years old, our national team player still doesn't think about ending his career.

- I am 38 years old, but I feel like I just started playing football. Things can't always be perfect, but you have to work on your progress. If you want to be a better player, you have to know your weaknesses.

I don't think now is the right time to retire. I feel it both in training and on the field. I have a lot to give to the club that wants me, and age is just a number.

I think I can compete with young players. I am not thinking about becoming a coach right now - pointed out Dijamant.

Finally, he commented on the refereeing in Turkey.

- Good question, but I won't go into details. There are people who should talk about that topic. My job is to give my best on the field. However, it is not normal for a team like Fenerbahce not to be champions in the league for 10 years - Džeko added.

This season, Dijamant has played a total of 22 matches in all competitions for Fener - scoring 13 goals and providing three assists.
