(Patria) - Armenian Andranik Karapetyan was granted BiH citizenship today, thus earning the right to compete for our country in upcoming competitions.
This weightlifter is a winner of two gold medals at senior world championships, and also has five gold medals at European championships. He was the European record holder in 2023.
Karapetyan is a member of the Weightlifting Club Željezničar and the Weightlifting Federation of BiH, and the decision on his citizenship was made by the Council of Ministers of BiH.
The 29-year-old has appearances at the Olympic Games in Rio 2016 - where he did not achieve a placement, and in Paris last year - where he was seventh-placed.
At the Weightlifting Federation of BiH they are full of optimism, and from Karapetyan they expect winning medals at the upcoming World Championship in Norway this year.
The goal is also for him to compete at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028 and try to bring our country the first Olympic medal in history.
