(Patria) - Exactly two years have passed since the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide.
84 UN member states voted in favor of the Resolution at the session in New York, held on May 23, 2024, 19 voted against, and 68 abstained.
The adopted Resolution pertains to the genocide committed in July 1995 in and around Srebrenica, and it designates July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide.
It confirms the judgments of international courts that genocide was committed in Srebrenica, and the Resolution condemns its denial and the glorification of convicted war criminals.
Furthermore, it calls on UN member states to preserve the facts about the genocide through education and remembrance culture.
