Double triumph for Ferrari in Melbourne

(Patria) - Carlos Sainz is the winner of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

The Spaniard with Ferrari broke the streak of nine victories by three-time consecutive world champion Max Verstappen in Red Bull, who retired from the race this morning due to brake problems.

Sainz's teammate Charles Leclerc finished second, and third place went to Lando Norris of McLaren.

The Spaniard achieved victory just two weeks after an appendectomy. Because of this, he missed the last race in Saudi Arabia, and his participation in Melbourne was in doubt until Friday.

However, he drove a flawless race at the Albert Park circuit and capitalized on Verstappen's gift. The Dutchman had to abandon the race due to a brake fire.

This was Ferrari's first double victory in two years, and they last celebrated like this in Bahrain in 2022 when both Red Bull cars retired early.

This time, Red Bull's other driver Sergio Perez finished in fifth place.

In the overall standings, Verstappen (51 points) still leads, ahead of Perez (36) and Leclerc (28).
