(Patria) - Less than two months after breaking the world record for the 12th time in front of his compatriots in Stockholm, Armand Duplantis has once again surpassed himself.
The extraordinary athlete cleared the bar set at 6.29 meters at the event in Budapest, improving the world record in pole vault for the 13th time in his career.
The question arises why the 25-year-old Swede, originally from Lafayette (US state of Louisiana), simply doesn't jump six and a half meters - if he can?
The reason is simple: the World Athletics Federation (IAAF) rewards every world record with $100,000, so it is in his interest to do it thoroughly and often.
It is easy to calculate that he has earned $1,300,000 million to date from bonuses alone distributed by the IAAF.
Armand Gustav Duplantis grew up in a very athletic environment - his father Greg was also a pole vaulter, and his mother Helena competed in heptathlon. Both were also his coaches in the early stages of his career.
His younger sister Johanna holds the unofficial world record in pole vault for the six and seven-year-old age groups.

He was born on November 10, 1999, in Louisiana, but decided to represent Sweden, thanks to his mother's heritage.
He lives between the USA and Sweden, speaks Swedish, drives Swedish cars, and spends a lot of time in Stockholm.
