
(Patria) - The senior tennis national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina failed to achieve victory in the away match against New Zealand within the Davis Cup.
On the second day of the First World Group Davis Cup match between New Zealand and Bosnia and Herzegovina, BiH tennis players failed to secure the decisive victory they needed for an overall triumph, after leading 2:0 on the first day of the competition.
First, the BiH doubles pair Brkić/Tadić lost to the favored New Zealand pair with a score of 2:0 in sets, reducing Bosnia and Herzegovina's lead to 2:1. Our team needed one more victory in the remaining two singles matches.
Andrej Nedić lost a very uncertain match to James Watt with a score of 6:3, 7:6(4). Although Nedić had his chances, Watt played extremely solidly until the end of the match and equalized the overall score to 2:2.
In the fifth, decisive match, Antoni Sheep and Mirza Bašić faced each other. Sheep started the match better and won the first set with a score of 6:2. In the second set, Bašić played significantly better and had several opportunities to force a third set, but Sheep also won the second set 6:4, bringing New Zealand the final victory of 3:2.
The Bosnian and Herzegovinian tennis national team will play a play-off match for survival in the First World Group of the Davis Cup competition in September 2026.
