Djokovic defeated Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz 2-0 in sets (7:6, 7:6) in a great and uncertain final.

Although both players played well, Djokovic seemed to play a bit more securely. He had four break points which he did not convert. Alcaraz also missed his chances, so after more than an hour of play, the first set went into a tie-break.

"I don't know what to say. I am completely shocked by emotions from everything. The goal was achieved to secure a medal for Serbia, to reach the final. Something I failed to do in the first four Olympics.

Everyone wanted me to go for gold, and I wanted it too, and that's what I went for today. I think the fact that I qualified for the final helped me enter the match a bit more relaxed. The match against him in London also helped me. I went for broke, I hit forehands in the decisive moments. That's how I finished with forehands," Djokovic told RTS.

Finally, he spoke about his family's support and had a message for the fans in Serbia.

"I went to hug them all immediately. I have a billion emotions swirling within me right now. I am overjoyed and extremely proud to have brought gold to Serbia, it is the greatest sporting achievement of my life," said Djokovic.
