VETERANS' DERBY Uščuplić Raised Many Generations of Sarajevo

(Patria) - Today, a veterans' derby was played at the Asim Ferhatović Hase stadium between Sarajevo and Željezničar in honor of Dženan Uščuplić. The veterans of Željezničar defeated Sarajevo in a charity match in honor of the late Dženan Uščuplić. All proceeds from the match went to charity through the organization Pomozi.ba.



Before the start of today's match at Košev, Krste Velkoski, Srđan Stanić, and Amar Ferhatović spoke to the MeridianSportBH portal.

- I am glad to be here and that we will play a match in honor of our Dženan Uščuplić. We all know how much Dženo loved the club, what he did for the club, and this is one way to remember his name. It certainly means something to me. My wish was to wear this jersey at least one more time. That wish has been fulfilled, and I am even happier that it is in honor of our Dženan, my coach, with whom I was more than a friend, said Velkoski, adding:

- There is a lot of emotion. It's certainly interesting, but this match will be of a humanitarian nature, so it will primarily be a good gathering. Of course, we all play to win the match. That is the most important thing at this moment. The result is not that important, but we are going for the win, Velkoski emphasized.



Stanić said that Dženan Uščuplić was his coach in the youth categories at Sarajevo, adding that he was very attached to him.

- Dženan Uščuplić was my coach in the youth categories at Sarajevo, so I was very attached to him all the time he was the coach of Sarajevo, and we are from the same city, so we socialized. When I got the opportunity to come here and play a match in his honor, of course, I responded. I hope for a very nice encounter and something good for the audience, and that we remind them a little of the players who played before, said Stanić, adding:

- We socialize like this after our careers among ourselves, I mean former players of Željo and Sarajevo, so we will try to win. All in all, the message is to gather as many people as possible and play a match in honor of Dženan Uščuplić.

Ferhatović pointed out that they were all teammates with Uščuplić, while he was also a coach to the younger ones, adding that he raised many generations in FK Sarajevo.

I hope the match will meet all the expectations of a derby, and the participants will show that and give their best, because, just like for us in Sarajevo, the derby was more than just a match for Željezničar as well, said Ferhatović.
