Damir Džumhur wins Challenger in Santo Domingo, significant jump on ATP list

(Patria) - The best Bosnian-Herzegovinian tennis player Damir Džumhur won the Challenger in Santo Domingo after defeating Andres Andrade in the final without major difficulties.

Džumhur reminded of his best days at the Challenger in the Dominican Republic and added another trophy to his collection.

The player from Sarajevo managed to reach the final of the tournament where he was the third seed, and with a great performance, he eventually managed to win the trophy.

In the final clash, Džumhur played against Ecuadorian tennis player Andres Andrade and managed to win 2-0 in sets, thus winning the Challenger in Santo Domingo.

The first set lasted 50 minutes and Andrade started well, taking a 3-1 lead in games after winning a break. However, Džumhur quickly broke back to make it 3-3, and the decisive moment came in the ninth game.

At 4-4, our tennis player made a break at the best possible moment to go up 5-4, and then easily closed out the set 6-4 without losing a point on his serve, taking a 1-0 lead against Andrade.

The second set began with lost breaks on both sides. First, Džumhur broke to lead 1-0, but Andrade managed to break back to make it 1-1.

However, Džumhur broke again to go up 2-1 and confirmed it with his serve to make it 3-1. Our tennis player broke again to go up 5-2, and it seemed like it was all over, but the Ecuadorian did not give up so easily.

He managed to break back once more and, after holding his serve, came back to 5-4, but Džumhur was fantastic again in the tenth game, winning it without losing a point.

Džumhur ultimately won the second set 6-4 as well, securing a 2-0 victory and the trophy in the tournament in the Dominican Republic, which he knew how to celebrate.

It is clear that the BiH tennis player will also advance on the new ATP list, making a jump of as many as 19 places, which means a significant return to the top 100. Džumhur is currently ranked 100th on the ATP list, but should be the 81st player in the world from tomorrow.

The best ranking in his career so far was achieved by the 32-year-old tennis player six years ago when he was 23rd on the ATP list. This was the 12th Challenger title for Džumhur in his career, and he also has three ATP titles.
