Ciro Immobile signs for Besiktas

(Patria) - Former captain and top scorer of Lazio Roma, Ciro Immobile, signed for Besiktas today, after eight years and more than 200 goals in the Roman jersey, the Turkish club announced.

"An agreement has been reached with the player for two seasons. He will receive a net salary of 6 million euros per season," the Istanbul club announced.

The 34-year-old Italian, who was greeted by hundreds of "Black Eagles" fans upon his arrival in Istanbul last night, scored 207 goals in 340 matches for Lazio, a record.

Immobile is one of the record holders in terms of goals scored, with 36 in the 2019-20 season in Serie A.

But the striker is coming off a mixed 2023/24 season with only 7 league goals, during which he lost his undisputed starting status and endured attacks from dissatisfied Lazio fans.

Immobile, who has 57 caps and 17 goals for the Azzurri, was not selected for the squad for the Euro in Germany.

The Italian's mission will be to revitalize Besiktas' attack, which underperformed last season, finishing sixth in the Süper Lig, more than 40 points behind champions Galatasaray and runners-up Fenerbahce, its two big Istanbul rivals.
