(Patria) - Michael van Gerwen, one of the greatest darts players in history, defeated Ryan Searle 6:1 in the round of 16 of the European Tour held in Munich, Germany.
The world number three opened his performance at the German Grand Prix yesterday with a victory, and during the match, he hit a perfect series, a nine-darter, which caused delirium in the audience. Even his opponent applauded.
A nine-darter is the rarest and most valued feat in professional darts, requiring a player to go from a maximum of 501 points to zero in just nine darts, which is mathematically the fastest possible.
Van Gerwen thus once again confirmed his class and ability to make the best possible moves in crucial moments. He did it in the fifth leg to take a 4:1 lead. Van Gerwen eventually won 6:1.
Michael van Gerwen became world champion in 2014, 2017, and 2019, while he lost in the finals in 2013, 2020, 2023, and this year.
Only Phil Taylor, who was world champion as many as 14 times, has more world titles in the PDC organization than him.
