(Patria) - The current world champion, the German national team, played a spectacular match today in the 4th round of Group B in Tampere, defeating a weak Great Britain by as many as 63 points.
Germany maintained their perfect record in the group stage by beating the British 120:57 (32:19, 26:12, 30:9, 32:17), the most convincing victory of the tournament so far.

However, that 63-point margin is not enough to even crack the top 10 biggest wins in European Championship history. At the top remains the result from 1953 when the USSR defeated Denmark 118:14.
There have been three other instances of margins exceeding 100 points (1947: Belgium - Albania 114:11, 1939: Lithuania - Finland 112:9 and Latvia - Finland 108:7), four times with 90+ margins, and twice with 80+.
But that was in different times. The most recent example of a top-10 result dates back to 1955.
The most convincing victory in German history, albeit West Germany, remains the one against Scotland from 1989 when the score was 127:53, reports Sportklub.
The Germans were led to victory by Tristan da Silva with 25 points. Dennis Schröder scored 19, and Franz Wagner added 18, along with ten rebounds.
In the final round, Germany plays against Finland on September 3, and a win would confirm the number 1 position ahead of the second round.
