Bizarre accident in Karlovac: Waitress's improper handling of alcoholic beverages sets guests on fire in disco club

(Patria) - Four people were seriously injured and three lightly injured with burns in a disco club due to a waitress's improper handling of alcoholic beverages.

Namely, the waitress (23) wanted to create a fire effect at the bar, but the fire from the bar spread to several people.

The director of the Karlovac General Hospital, Ivana Kovačić, stated that all the injured are out of danger, and that two girls, both born in 2002, have been admitted for treatment.

- One of them has burns on her face, and the other has burns on her upper body and arms. They have 2B burns covering 27 percent of their bodies. The others were sent home - Kovačić said.

The accident happened early this morning around 2:30 AM. The Karlovac Police Department stated that an investigation was conducted and announced the continuation of criminal investigations to determine all circumstances.

The disco club where the accident occurred issued an apology to its guests and offered assistance to the injured and those who suffered other damages.

- Unfortunately, an incident occurred. It was supposed to be an effective bar fire with stroh. What happened is that people who were guests in the establishment were injured because a bottle exploded and the substance spilled onto them.

And, unfortunately, people were injured. This was the first time. We have never done this before. The waitress said she knew how to do it, that she would handle it. She did it, let's say, on her own initiative. She insisted on doing it.

I believed she knew how, but obviously something went wrong. She herself doesn't know what right now. People are injured. That's the only thing on my mind right now.

I don't care about material damage. I don't care about anything else at all except human lives. I wasn't here at the time. I arrived within two minutes of being notified of what happened.

We have offered assistance to both the injured and those who suffered damages. I am not running away from my responsibility. In a way, I consider myself responsible, especially morally.

I am prepared to participate in all treatment costs, as well as in compensating people whose clothes or other items were damaged - said the club owner Gordan Fancev.

He emphasizes that the parents of some people have already contacted them, and adds that he stands by everything he has written.

- The people who contacted us were really cooperative. They didn't condemn us. They asked if we really stood behind our offer. After this event, I haven't spoken with the waitress - Fancev added.

And then about the future of the disco club.

- We recently celebrated our 12th anniversary. I've been in this club for twelve years. It was perhaps the only club in Karlovac for 12 years.

These human casualties have shaken me. The recent situations, in general society and everything else. So, I have definitely decided and made up my mind that this was the last night. As such, under my leadership, I do not wish to run this club anymore - the owner stated.
