Bosnia and Herzegovina put up a fight but lost to Italy

(Patria) - The Bosnia and Herzegovina national basketball team was defeated by Italy tonight with a score of 96:79 in the 3rd round of EuroBasket. Although our players played a significantly better game than last night against Spain, the third quarter proved decisive when the Italians hit a series of three-pointers and broke the game.

Our team started well and took a 6:0 lead, finishing the first quarter with a minimal deficit (22:21). The game remained close during the second quarter, but a motivated Simone Fontecchio, who had already scored 21 points by halftime, led Italy to a 44:40 lead.

In the second half, a shooting spree by the Italians proved decisive – Thompson, Ricci, and Spissu hit key three-pointers to establish a double-digit lead, which the Azzurri routinely maintained until the end.

Italy was led to victory by the incredible Simone Fontecchio with 39 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Thompson and Spissu added 14 points each, with significant contributions in playmaking.

For Bosnia and Herzegovina, Jusuf Nurkić was the best with 21 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. John Roberson scored 13, Amar Alibegović 12, and Edin Atić 10, with eight assists and five rebounds.

Although they managed to reduce the deficit to -5 in the final moments, our players lacked the strength for a comeback. After two consecutive losses, BiH must now look for its chance in the remaining two games to qualify for the round of 16.

Our team's next match is on Tuesday against Greece, starting at 2 PM.
