Bosnia and Herzegovina citizens and economy spent 3.5 billion KM on fuel in the first nine months of 2024

(Patria) - From the beginning of the year until the end of September, 1.6 billion liters of gasoline, diesel, heating oil, and other fuels were imported into Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a total import value of 1.6 billion KM or an average retail value exceeding 3.5 billion KM, writes Capital.ba.

The import value of fuel means it is the goods before customs clearance, to which a series of duties are added - excise taxes ranging from 30-45 feninga depending on the type of fuel, and two road tolls - 15 feninga for road maintenance and 25 feninga for road construction. A total of 0.7 KM to 0.85 KM.

When VAT is added to all of this, the state receives approximately 1 KM for every liter, plus the seller's margin can be up to 0.25 KM per liter.

Representatives of oil traders from both the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) and Republika Srpska (RS) say that precise statistics on household consumption are unavailable, but they know how much fuel is consumed.

- In FBiH, between 920-950 million liters of fuel are consumed annually - stated Milenko Bošković, president of the Association of Fuel Distributors FBiH, for Capital.

Đorđe Savić, chairman of the Group for Oil and Oil Products Trade at the Chamber of Commerce of RS, also emphasizes that there are no statistics on household consumption, but he knows that around 40 million liters are consumed in mines and by other large industrial consumers.

- In RS, about 650 million liters of various fuels are consumed annually, of which about 40 million go to mines and other facilities, meaning about 610 million liters of fuel are filled at gas stations - said Savić.

According to the statistics he has, there are about 1,200 gas stations operating in Bosnia and Herzegovina, about 500 in RS and 700 in FBiH, and the average sale per gas station is about 130 million liters.

Data from the Indirect Taxation Authority (UIO) of BiH for the first nine months of this year indicate that the largest amount imported was diesel - 1.4 billion liters. Considering that the average price of diesel is 2.3 KM per liter, citizens and the economy in BiH spent over three billion KM (3,310,635,711 KM) on diesel alone.

129.8 million liters of gasoline were consumed, and considering the average price of 2.2 KM per liter, 285.6 million KM were spent on this fuel.

Around 60 million KM were spent on heating oil, which is used the least.

If we simply divide the number of liters imported by the end of September, 1.6 billion, by the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 3.5 million according to the last census, it means that 453 liters per capita were consumed in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

If we multiply this by the average price of 2.3 KM, it means that over 1,000 KM per capita was spent in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through the economy and private consumption, in the first nine months of this year.
