(Patria) - Dutch judoka Senna van Dijke proved too strong an opponent for Aleksandra Samardžić in the second round of the Olympic judo tournament. Samardžić held her own until near the end of the bout, but the experienced van Dijke, a candidate for the highest placement, won by ippon.
Bosnian judoka Aleksandra Samardžić successfully began her campaign at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Samardžić, in the under-70 kg category, defeated Denmark's Laerke Olsen by ippon in the first round.
The Bosnian judoka was much more active from the start of the match and forced the Dane to receive two warnings (shido), and in the "golden score" period, she secured victory by ippon in the very first minute.
Samardžić will face one of the medal favourites, the Netherlands' Sanne van Dijke, in the second round.
