(Patria) - The Bosnia and Herzegovina basketball team returned today from Riga, where BiH is ranked 13th overall.
Coach Adis Bećiragić said at Sarajevo airport that he was satisfied with the work done, but his future on the bench remained uncertain.
"I am extremely satisfied with the job we did. Looking at everything that happened in the last 50 days. Our goal was to win everything. We were close to making it to the top eight. One or two shots, a few free throws, or two defensive rebounds. I regret it, because we played better than Poland. They seemed to have beaten us in the end through experience and John's injury. That's experience, we don't cry. In the end, I am happy with the work and commitment of the players and the entire staff," said Bećiragić.
After the match with Poland on Sunday, he stated that he did not know what the future held, leaving the basketball public in doubt as to whether he would remain on the Dragons' bench, even though he had recently extended his contract with the KSBiH.
"One cannot be sure of anything. I have certain issues, and I should resolve those issues. We will see, primarily with my club where I earn my money. Some family issues. If that is resolved - it continues. If not - it will not continue," concluded Bećiragić.
The Basketball Federation of BiH had previously clarified that Bećiragić has a two-year contract, meaning he should lead the national team in the qualifiers for the World Cup, which begin in November. However, Bećiragić also has the right to a private life, so his staying or leaving will obviously depend on family circumstances as well.
After BiH defeated Georgia and qualified for the round of 16, the coach stated that he dedicated this victory to his wife Aida, with whom he has four children whom he rarely sees due to his work.
