Barbarez new head coach of the Dragons: Our vision will differ from the previous one

(Patria) - The Executive Board of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina today appointed Sergej Barbarez as the new head coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

With this move, the FA BiH fulfilled a long-standing wish of the majority of fans of the BiH national team.

"This is certainly a big thing for me, and I hope it will be for the national team as well. We come with great desire, great pride to do some good things. It would be unfair on my part to comment on the past, we stick to our vision that we all have in the Association. We will follow our path and rest assured that everything will be one hundred percent correct. Everyone who knows me knows how it goes," said Sergej Barbarez in his first address to the public as head coach.

Barbarez emphasized that it is certain that work will be done in a planned manner and through agreement.

"I hope that we will seize this first year and get some points and wins. Although everyone cautiously comments on the past matches, I also see something positive. We need to look for names that will carry the national team," said Barbarez.

Speaking about the vision, he said he would not go into details today.

"That vision will differ from the previous one. We want to improve everything with some new perspectives. I have always wanted to work with smarter and more successful people. And we go with that 'I, meaning team'," said Barbarez.

The president of FA BiH said that the head coach will have the free will to choose the coaching staff according to his own discretion and wishes. Zeljković said that some things were set aside, but that they talked about the past, which they left aside.

"Football won, football is one great unity. We analyzed everything that happened and we knew in 2021 as well as today in 2024 that Barbarez has no experience in leading teams, but when we looked at everything and put it on the scale, at this moment there was no dilemma when it comes to their personalities.

"At this moment, that is the best for the national team," said Zeljković.
Barbarez said that he is in final talks with candidates for the coaching staff, but that they are well-known people.

"The team is number one. I was not only a captain on the field but also in private life. If we have respect among ourselves, everything functions," added Barbarez.

Emir Spahić, the legendary captain of the Dragons, has been appointed as the new director of the BiH national team selections.

He said that he knows very well what kind of character Barbarez is, but that both the good and bad moments will be resolved in the right way.

Zvjezdan Misimović, who has been performing this function until now, will be reassigned to the position of advisor and will remain in FA BiH.
