Austria breaks Jordan in the finish and opens World Cup with a 3:1 victory

(Patria) - Austria opened their campaign in Group J of the World Cup with a victory, defeating Jordan 3:1 in a match full of twists and excitement.

Jordan missed a big chance already in the 2nd minute through Ehsan Haddad, and Austria punished the miss in the 21st minute when Romano Schmid scored with a precise shot for 1:0.

However, Jordan quickly got back into the match. Ali Olwan took advantage of space in Austria's defence in the 50th minute and equalised with a precise shot to make it 1:1.

Austria then took the initiative. The introduction of Marko Arnautović brought additional energy, and in the 76th minute an unfortunate reaction from Yazan Al Arab after a corner ended in an own goal for 2:1.

In the finish, Austria confirmed the victory. After a VAR intervention, a penalty was awarded in stoppage time, and Arnautović was confident for the final 3:1.
