After Arsenal's 3:0 win in London, Real Madrid fans secretly hoped that Carlo Ancelotti's team would manage to work a miracle tonight.
But the miracle did not happen at the Santiago Bernabeu. Arsenal also won the return leg 2:1.
There were no goals in the first half. But there were plenty of chances.
Arsenal were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute after a duel between Merino and Asensio. Referee Letexier initially did not blow his whistle, but after a VAR review he pointed to the spot.
Saka took the responsibility, attempting a nonchalant panenka to beat Courtois, but the Real goalkeeper read it and saved his shot.
Real also got a penalty in the 24th minute, after Rice pulled Mbappé. However, after a six-minute check, the French referee overturned his decision after reviewing the footage.
Although they were chasing a three-goal deficit, Real Madrid did not manage a shot on goal in the first half.
Real attacked in the second half as well, but did not create any major chances.
Arsenal took the lead through Saka in the 65th minute. Merino provided a brilliant assist.
Just two minutes later, the score in Madrid was level. Saliba made a catastrophic mistake in his own penalty area, Vinicius stole the ball and scored to make it 1:1.
Real sought a turnaround until the end, but in stoppage time an Arsenal counter-attack flashed and Martinelli scored to send his team to the semi-finals.
Real Madrid remain on a record 15 European titles. The Kings were last stopped at this stage of the competition in the 2020/21 season, when they were eliminated by Chelsea - who later went on to win the Champions League.
Arsenal will face PSG in the semi-finals. The first leg will be played in London on April 29 or 30.
Inter will play in the semi-finals for the ninth time, having outplayed Bayern over two legs.
After Inter's 2:1 victory in Munich in the first leg, the return match in Milan ended in a 2:2 draw.

All goals were scored in the second half.
Bayern took the lead in the 52nd minute through a goal by Kane, thus making up the deficit from the first leg, but the hosts turned the match around with goals from Martinez in the 58th and Pavard in the 61st minute.
Dier gave Bayern hope of forcing extra time in the 76th minute, but the score did not change until the end.
Inter will battle for a place in the final against Barcelona, with the first leg to be played in Spain.
