In the category up to 70 kg, Samardžić defeated Denmark's Laerke Olsen by ippon in the first round. The Bosnian judoka was much more active from the start of the match, forcing the Dane into two warnings (shido), and in the "golden score" she secured victory by ippon within the first minute.
Samardžić will compete in the second round against one of the medal favorites, the Dutch judoka Sanne van Dijke.
